Using your car abroad

Is my car covered for foreign travel?

If you spend any time abroad, you should let us know prior to travel as it may affect your car insurance cover.

You get up to 60 days EU cover per trip and you can make unlimited trips in a year. You don't need to inform us or to get a green card (see below) when travelling in the EU. If you need more than 60 days car insurance cover, call us and we may be able to arrange it for you subject to being acceptable to your underwriter.

You will enjoy the same level of cover as you would in the UK throughout the EU.

If you are travelling outside the EU, call us to check whether you are covered. If you aren't we can extend your car insurance policy cover in most instances for you, subject to it being acceptable to the underwriter.

What is a green card and how do I get one?

A Green Card is a method of proving that you have car insurance when you are travelling abroad. They are no longer required for travel in the EU.

If you are travelling outside of the EU, or you would prefer to have a Green Card, we can still issue one, however a charge of £15 will be applied.
