03 July 2008 Used car guide celebrates 75th birthday

Guide is celebrating its 75th birthday. EurotaxGlass' used car guide celebrates 75 years helping drivers to pick up a second-hand vehicle this month.

The first edition of the tome was published in 1933, when motor engineer William Glass outlined prices motorists could expect to pay for vehicles such as the Ford 10 De Luxe.

It may be that through the years motorists have used the publication to save money which can be used to pay for road tax and car insurance bills.

Current managing editor Adrian Rushmore remarked that times have changed financially in the time since the first edition was published.

"The guide editorial that accompanied the Riley valuation refers to businesses 'feeling the retarding effects of the impending election', but clearly prices were not under anything like the same pressure they have been over recent years," he said.

Jeff Paterson from EurotaxGlass' recently told the Times that used convertible sales are down in 2008 compared to previous years.
